Placing an order

You can place an order in two ways: via our website or over the telephone. In store ordering is available for simple cakes.

1) In store ordering

• Visit our Herne Hill store to place an order for a simple cake that does not require manager approval.
  
  

• Please arrive at least 30 minutes before closing so we have time to process your order.
  
  

2) Telephone or website ordering

• For orders placed without visiting the store, please note that under UK consumer law, bespoke and perishable food items are not eligible for change-of-mind cancellation. Most of our cakes fall into this category.
  
  

• Once payment is made, your order moves through our internal checks and production stages. At that point our cancellation clause applies whether or not we obtain an electronic signature.
  
  

Payment: Full payment is required on all orders, as every cake is made to order. Please be sure of what you are ordering. You will not be able to cancel bespoke items after payment, as work may already have started.

Check your details: It is your responsibility to confirm that your quote or invoice states the correct date, delivery or collection time, spellings, flavours, and design notes. Quotes are based on your exact requirements and are non-negotiable. We do not price-match. Pricing reflects date, delivery area, the standard of craftsmanship, and the quality of ingredients.

Our design service

All cakes are bespoke. We can:

• Create a fresh design to your brief, or
  
  

• Recreate a design from our online or in-store portfolio, or from images you supply, with adjustments to colours, flowers, or other elements to suit your theme.
  
  

Consultations and cake tasting

• Recommended for weddings, corporate events, or multi-cake orders.
  
  

• By appointment at our Herne Hill store, with or without tasting.
  
  

• Taster box: £30 for 10 of our most popular flavours, served with hot or cold refreshments.
  
  

• If you place an order after a booking, we will credit £25 toward your order.
  
  

Timing and lead times

Every cake is handcrafted. Drying times and artwork vary by design.

• Celebration and novelty cakes: book at least 2 weeks in advance, especially in summer.
  
  

• Wedding cakes: book at least 3 months in advance.
  
  

• We may accept short-notice orders depending on our schedule.
  
  

Pricing

Prices depend on size, shape, flavour, servings, complexity, and seasonality. During peak periods we may need to bring in agency staff to meet demand; this can affect pricing.

• Wedding cakes start at £250.
  
  

• Novelty and celebration cakes start at £70.
  
  

• We can suggest design tweaks that respect your budget, subject to schedule and design constraints.
  
  

On a budget

We are happy to simplify, substitute, or remove certain elements to achieve a similar look within a set budget, where feasible.

Coverage and construction

• Fondant allows almost any design, including models, accessories, and sculpted elements.
  
  

• Buttercream can achieve beautiful results, even for weddings, with some design limitations.
  
  

• For structural novelty cakes, not all fillings or frostings are suitable. We will guide you to options that travel well and present safely.
  
  

Inspiration

Your input helps us personalise your cake. References such as photos, web links, invitations, colour swatches, and magazine cut-outs are very helpful.

Variations and substitutions

• Colours may vary slightly due to different brands or batches.
  
  

• Handwriting and figurines are hand-crafted, so no two decorators produce identical results. We will create a similar look to your chosen reference.
  
  

• We may use alternative brands, methods, or team members to complete your order to standard.
  
  

• If alternatives remain within the agreed brief and quality, we may proceed without further contact, as payment confirms agreement in principle.
  
  

Cancellations

• To cancel, contact us by phone or email at least 7 business days before your collection or delivery date. Items may already be on order or production may have started, so earlier notice helps.
  
  

• Refunds, where eligible, are made to the original payment method.
  
  

• Same-day or next-day services are not eligible for cancellation or amendment once paid.
  
  

• For distance orders of non-bespoke, non-perishable items, statutory rights may apply. Most of our products are bespoke and perishable, so standard change-of-mind rights do not apply.
  
  

Complaints

Please email complaints@brixtoncakeshop.com in writing. Include your order number, photos where relevant, and a clear description of your concern. We will review and respond.

Friendly reminders

• Delivery is recommended for many larger or sculpted designs.
  
  

• Transporting fully cake-based structures can be risky; we may recommend internal supports or alternative materials to protect your design and your journey.
  
  

• Always store and serve as advised for food safety and best quality.
